Healing Isn’t Always Pretty

Healing is often the hardest and messiest thing that is done. I would love to tell you the journey to healing is easy, that it comes into the room like a petite, sweet little thing, but it doesn’t. You may question what you thought you believed in, you may have frustration, questions, attitudes you daily have to lay at the feet of Jesus. Like me, you may end up leaving one emotionally, spiritually unstable situation to another, leaving you with one wound that is healing and another that is fresh. Healing often isn’t pretty, because for the first time in your life you have laid down your guard, and let yourself feel the pain. You can cry over each and every thing that has hurt you. Instead of the wound being shoved down deep inside, it is taken out with honesty, honesty with ourselves and with God, and placed at the foot of the cross. Healing from the outside doesn’t always look pretty but inside, it is the most precious, tender thing that can happen. Because that is where God is doing the work. Our healing may not be noisy to others, it might be messy, but don’t give up, keep being honest with God and with yourself, and stay grounded in His grace. Even when the tears come, God is still working and creating something beautiful with your life. He’s taking what others may consider a mess and making it into His masterpiece.
